The route is a product choice, not a hidden implementation detail. Verba does not describe the whole product as “on-device” when Cloud features exist.
Local
Selected content is processed on the Mac for that operation.
- Requires compatible hardware and an installed model.
- Quality and speed depend on the model and available memory.
- Model downloads and update checks are still network activity.
Cloud
The content needed for the action is sent for remote processing.
- Requires an account, network access, and an open service gate.
- Current document and retention details live in the Privacy Policy.
- If the gate is closed, Local remains independent where available.
Compatibility without “works everywhere”
The available finish depends on the editor surface.
Verba checks capabilities for the current field and uses the safest supported tier. App updates, editor versions, web canvases, and document structure can change the result.
Review and verified Apply
Standard editable text surfaces where selection, target identity, and read-back can be validated.
Review with a limited finish
Verba can capture enough context to propose an edit, but rich structure or target verification may restrict Apply.
Recoverable fallback
Use Copy for unusual editors. Passwords, secure fields, and sensitive protected surfaces are blocked.
Known limits: custom canvas editors, remote desktops, complex spreadsheets, protected document objects, and rapidly changing selections can require Copy or a fresh capture.
Trust is an observable workflow
Review, permissions, and recovery are part of the product.
Review before Apply
Exact changes stay visible. If the selection changed or cannot be verified, Verba stops.
Recover the result
Copy remains available when automatic insertion is unsafe. Dictation results are not treated as lost just because a paste fails.
Content-free diagnostics
Diagnostic events exclude selected text, transcripts, output, prompts, clipboard content, credentials, and document URLs.

Does Verba read everything on my screen?
No. The editing workflow targets the focused selection. Accessibility is required for cross-app selection and insertion; Screen Recording and Full Disk Access are not requested for this workflow.
What is the difference between Local and Cloud?
Local processes the selected content on compatible hardware using an installed model. Cloud sends the content needed for the chosen action to remote processing. The result shows which route was used.
Will Apply work in every editor?
No. Standard text fields are the strongest case. Custom canvases, protected objects, secure fields, and changing selections can limit Verba to Capture, Copy, or Blocked.
What happens if paste or Dictate fails?
Verba verifies automatic edits when the surface allows it. If verification fails, it stops and preserves a Copy path. Dictation keeps a recoverable result instead of silently claiming insertion succeeded.
Do I need an account?
Cloud requires an account and current legal acceptance. Local can remain independent where compatible models and licensing are available.
Is iOS publicly available?
The public download on this site is for Mac. iOS builds may be distributed separately for internal testing and are not advertised here as a public App Store release.
